Speculations on What Just Happened

Like many,  I suspected that the midterm election would very likely flip the House Democratic,  and possibly even flip the Senate.  I think everyone (me included) was totally surprised by the magnitude of the “blue wave”.

Trump told people to vote as if he were on the ballot,  and I think that’s what most of them did!  The fact that so many repudiated him and the party that he so utterly controls,  gives me hope for the future of America.   Hope that I have personally lacked for some time.

It’s a bit buried among all the other election outcome analyses,  but one odd thing did surface!  It would appear that the new Democratic majority in Congress will be investigating a lot of Trump administration figures,  just as one should expect.  Hegseth was mentioned for possible impeachment.  But,  it was also said (I heard this in only one interview) that they have no intention of trying to impeach Trump himself!  That’s very odd!

In the weeks before the election,  Trump proclaimed his intent not to accept results that went against the party he controls.  In point of fact,  that has been his pattern since he announced his very first run for office back in 2015!  His clear pattern since the very beginning,  was not to accept the results of,  and to do everything he could to overturn,  any election that went against him!

Trump literally said so in 2016,  2020,  and 2024.  He did not actually do so in 2016 and 2024,  because he won.  But we all saw the insurrection he incited after the 2020 election that he lost,  trying to stay in office past the end of his term!  That alone proves the violence he is willing to use,  to try to overturn an election result!

We even have the testimony of one insider-turned-witness,  that Trump wrestled with his Secret Service agents for control of the car after his Ellipse speech,  right as the January 6 insurrection began.  He wanted to go to Capitol,  apparently to lead the insurrection,  with the Secret Service agents instead trying to take him back to the White House.  He did not succeed,  fortunately for American democracy.

Based on Trump’s behavior pattern and those prior events,  I expected to see both voter intimidation by ICE/CBP agents at the polls,  and National Guard troops standing by near some polling locations,  ready for a Trump declaration of martial law,  to seize ballots and election records.  That did not actually happen,  which very much surprised me!

Based on his behavior pattern,  and on his actual behavior after the 2020 election,  plus what he said about not accepting this midterm if it went against his party,  one must ask:  why did he not try to overturn it?

Up to this point,  everything I have talked about is fact supported by the public record.  But from here on,  it is only speculation on my part!  There are no facts yet!  But some may be revealed,  perhaps sooner,  perhaps later.  If ever.

I suspect that Trump (and all in his party) could see the “handwriting on the wall” in the weeks leading up to this midterm election:  that they were going to lose “big-time”,  with another impeachment of Trump a real possibility.   That prospect would seem to drive Trump to try to overturn the results.  And his social media posts certainly reflected that.

Not everybody still in the GOP is a “MAGA” extremist,  although at the national level,  the extremists are apparently the majority within that party!  I suspect that the Democrats and the few non-extremist Republicans in Congress,  foresaw this impending crisis,  got together,  and went to Trump in the days before the election with this threat:  fail to accept the results,  and the new Democratic majority plus the non-extremist Republicans would impeach and convict him.  Conviction removes him from office.  Immediately.  Per the Constitution.

There could be many grounds for that threatened impeachment,  which threat is what I suspect without any evidence.  They range from corruption,  to criminal abuse of immigrants,  even to treason for trashing our alliances.  Not to mention imposing almost all the hallmarks of a dictatorship upon us.  Given those grounds,  I personally think that the new Congress should proceed with impeachment anyway.

We may,  or may not ever,  learn the real truth of this!  But there had to be a significant “something” that induced Trump not to try to overturn his party’s losses,  this time!  Not doing so goes against all of his previous behavior pattern!
